Hello, my name is Zoë Dearborn, and I am a creativity enthusiast. Human creativity is our greatest natural resource and the key to our evolution. All people are innately creative, and I have dedicated my life to helping others live their creative dreams and fullest potential, while also realizing my own. I founded ART FOR LIFE in 2011 in Southern Baja, which promotes the arts and creativity through workshops, classes, personal coaching, community projects and events. Drawing on techniques, exercises and trainings from my diverse artistic and professional background, I create inspiring and supportive frameworks that allow for holistic experience and optimum creative flow. I bring compassion, presence and playfulness to my work.

I have a Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College in Studio Art and East Asian Studies and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and Expressive Arts Therapy from the California Institute of Integral Studies, in San Francisco. For the past ten years I have taught filmmaking, creative writing, acting, improvisation and visual art to adults and children. I have also worked as an expressive arts therapist with groups, couples and individuals in the Bay Area.

I spent my first thirty years in New York City engaged with many art forms, including years of training and working as an actress. In 2004, I discovered my musical voice, and formed Social Service, an all-female rock band, where I played guitar and sang my songs. In Oakland, California I was a performing member with the improv troupe Awkward Face at Pan Theater.

In 2012, with ZOELAB 365 (zoelab.net), I created an intense creative challenge for myself with my first blog. I committed to one year of posting every day with both words and images. The multimedia blog weaves together stories of my urban past with trials and tribulations of motherhood and a do-it-yourself, off the grid, life-as-art in the desert. I write on philosophy, parenting, psychology, the arts and the spiritual path. I continue to create photography, poetry, essays, videos, and songs and I am also developing an improv-based sit-com to be shot on location in Baja. I have a particular passion for supporting creative moms and am currently developing a book on the topic.

I live with my husband and five year old son in our house-in-progress, off the grid, in Elias Calles, Baja California Sur. I collaborate with my family with drawing, music, and video.
